Melbourne Zoo

Only a short tram ride up William Street or a train from Southern Cross station to Royal Park station,  Melbourne Zoo is a wonderful day out for kids and kids at heart. Skating at the O’Brien Icehouse

Located in the heart of Docklands and a short tram ride on the complimentary city circle tram O’Brien Icehouse is an indoor winter wonderland. Free 15 minute skating lessons and other ice fun and games make this the perfect day out for the whole family!

 

Luna Park St Kilda

Melbourne’s most famous beach side suburb, St Kilda, hosts Luna Park, a 100 year old attraction with rides for brave family members, as well as those who like their rides a little more tame. A easy ride on the 96 tram from the CBD Luna Park is free to enter, simply buy single ride or unlimited tickets. Finish the day with an ice cream and stroll along Port Phillip Bay.

 

Scienceworks

Located in the Spotswood, only 5km from the Melbourne CBD easily accessed by the Williamstown ferry and also with free onsite parking. The educational and fun exhibitions at Scienceworks are always changing, meaning that there is something new to see each visit. Also, make sure you visit the planetarium.

 

Once a year activity: Moomba

Moomba is Australia’s largest free community festival and one of Melbourne’s favourite family activities and annual events.

Presented by the City of Melbourne, Moomba has been running for over fifty years and takes place in early March annually. A fun and community driven festival, Moomba crowns a King or Queen each year with past royalty including former Olympian Cathy Freeman, entertainers Dame Edna Everage,personalities Molly Meldrum and Ruby Rose, soccer champion Harry Kewell and AFL coaching legend Mick Malthouse.

Moomba takes place across the Alexandra Gardens,Birrarung Marr and the Yarra River and includes a variety of entertainment for all ages including live music and entertainment, kids activities and water sports. The Moomba parade is the highlight of the festival, rolling down iconic St Kilda road to the cheers of thousands.
