If you are a big Harry Potter fan, get your wands ready as Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is being staged exclusively at The Princess Theatre in Melbourne. In 2022 this brand new production was re-imagine to be one part – instead of the two that it previously was.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is currently also on the West End in the UK. It has has won 24 major awards and is the most awarded production in the history of Britain’s prestigious Olivier Awards.

The play is also being screened in New York, Hamburg, Toronto and Tokyo.

 

Premise behind Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

For those that have not read the premise, it is the eight story of the Harry Potter series and was written by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany.

The play follows the friends 19 years after the battles at Hogwarts. Harry has always found it difficult being himself. Now that he is older, he is now an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of 3 school aged children. Harry is grappling with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs. Meanwhile his youngest son Albus is struggling with the weight of his family legacy that he never asked for.

As the past and present fuse together, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: That sometimes darkness can come from unexpected places.

The cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Theatre goers will be thrilled with the cast being lead by Gareth Reeves as Harry, Paula Arundell as Hermione, Michael Whalley as Ron. Secondary cast members includes Katie-Jean Harding as Ginny, Ben Walter as Albus and  Lachlan Woods as Draco.
